In Madhya Pradesh, 21,077 government schools operate with only one teacher each. Unfortunately, 10,630 girls have dropped out due to poor safety and inadequate facilities like toilets. Furthermore, 36,498 out of 98,963 primary and middle schools lack electricity, impacting the quality of education.
Hemkunt Foundation Gurukul offers a ray of hope in this challenging landscape. We are dedicated to providing safe and well-equipped learning environments, especially for the marginalized communities of Sikligar/ Vanjare, to ensure they receive the education they deserve. Join us in making a lasting difference and empowering the next generation.

Project Overview
Hemkunt Foundation’s Gurukul, India’s largest not for profit skill development centre, is situated on an area of 25 acres and aims to empower children from marginalised communities of Sikligar/Vanjare tribes, to break the cycle of generational poverty through education, leadership, and skill development
Through Gurukul, children, especially those from vulnerable and underprivileged backgrounds, get a chance to maximise their potential and develop their social and academic potential. Hemkunt Foundation Gurukul is based 125 kms from Indore, in Chalpi Khurd, district Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. About 200 villages are present around our academy, within a radius of 30 km of this region.
Hemkunt Foundation has been working with Sikligar/Vanjare communities in Madhya Pradhesh for the past 6 years, helping them with employment while providing them with ration kits. To uplift the community from generational poverty, education becomes the most significant factor in their holistic change. Families are forced to send their children as young as 10 years of age to look out for daily wage jobs to sustain livelihood and hence, completing school to be eligible for employment is a difficult choice for the locals.

Skill Development Curriculum
All students undergo industry–specific training modules, which constitute 30% of the curriculum and prepare them for the workforce. We collaborate with employer organizations to instill their skills and values, reducing on-the-job training time for new hires. Hands-on training is provided to all students based on their chosen skill course to enhance their employability upon placement.
During the training period, all students receive free accommodation, food, clothing (including uniforms and sportswear), and medical assistance. Even after completing their courses, students waiting for job placements continue to have free access to these facilities until they secure employment through the academy’s placement drives.
The skill courses offered include:
Agriculture
Tailoring and stitching
IT skills – By NIIT Foundation
Metal Fabrication & Lathe work
Tele-customer support
During their training, students will get free accommodation, meals, clothing (including uniforms and sportswear), and medical care. Even after finishing their courses, they can continue to use these services until they find a job through the academy’s placement programs.
*Please note that the skill development curriculum may be updated and is subject to change as the project progresses.

Expected Project Outcomes
As of a September 2021 study by The Indian Logical, India has 60% of the world’s impoverished population. Among this large number, 16.4% of people live in poverty, and 4.2% face extreme destitution. The Sikligar/Vanjare tribes, in particular, have been trapped in a cycle of hardship for half a century. With an illiteracy rate of 98.3%, many children are forced to work early to help support their families, cutting short their education due to financial pressures. This harsh reality deeply affects their growth and the future of their communities. In the midst of these challenges, Hemkunt Foundation’s Gurukul stands as a beacon of hope. We expect the following outcomes to emerge in the next three years:
- 1,500 skilled Youth
- Rs.2,25,00.000/- month worth livelihood generated
- Boost female participation
- Improved Literacy Rates
- Enhanced Skill Development
- Community Empowerment
Our
Testimonials
“Education is the only solution to eradicate generational poverty and unemployment. It is disheartening to see that a large segment of the population do not have access to it and I want to do my bit to help as many people of my country as possible”
